Viola

Nicolas Loubaton | Orchestre de l’Opéra de Lyon | Viola Nicolas is very invested in the social dimension that all forms of music can have and what this implies for the reflection of our era. Meeting and discussing with people from different social universes, understanding the life of one another; practising music can play a role in making society more just and emancipatory. It is in this spirit that he pursues his studies in Pedagogics at the CNSMD Lyon, in addition to his work in the opera. His musical training was done in and around Paris: The conservatory of his native town Villejuif with tuition from Marc-Antoine Chômet, followed by the conservatory of the 13th arrondissement, Saint-Maur, with marie-Christine Witterkoër, and lastly the CNSM Paris in the viola class of Jean Sulem and Marc Desmons and in the class for music analysis of Claude Abromont. Nicolas has a great interest in chamber music its shared benefits for all people involved, and the collective experience he made in the orchestra during his student years should mark him durably. It is in the French Youth Orchestra, of which he was part for four consecutive years, that he learnt all the aspects of and orchestra musician: the listening and the (re-)searching of the sound, pedagogic projects in a prison or on a palliative care ward, training of the body, or experience on stage. In recent years, Nicolas has been chosen to take part in different chamber music academies and summer festivals: Music Master Courses Japan, Yokohama, in 2014 and 2015, and the Académie du Festival de Verbier, Switzerland, in 2018. He was appointed third solo viola of the Orchestre de l’Opéra de Lyon in 2017. Nicolas plays a viola of Charles Coquet from 2014.
